Super-fit gran, 61, shares health tips to look amazing at any age

A super-fit gran shared her tips for ageing well – and they’re simpler than you think.

Jacqueline Hooton, 61, from West Sussex, is known for encouraging other women to build their strength. Despite having osteoarthritis, the personal trainer can lift double her body weight and wants others to know they can be fit and healthy at any age.

She believes it’s crucial to stay active in your 60s to ensure you can enjoy doing the things you love later in life. In a recent Instagram post she revealed strength training, cardiovascular exercise, stretching and mobility work, explosive power exercises and fast footwork challenges can help you keep fit and fabulous into your later years.

Writing on Instagram, Jacqueline said: “Agility, nimbleness, flexibility, the ability to move quickly. All things worth training for in our 60s so we can explore and enjoy the world around us.

“This is a favourite and secret spot of mine on the beach where I live. I can’t tell you where it is. It’s a secret.

“But it does require a bit of agility, nimbleness and flexibility to access it. And I still want to enjoy this secret spot in my 70s and 80s and beyond.

“What do you want to be able to do in your later years? Whatever your vision is make sure you’re investing time in your vision today.”

The post has garnered thousands of likes and plenty of comments. One person wrote: “Yes! This is it – the big motivator for my exercises. I want to be able to DO things!”

Another added: “I’m about to turn 33 and you make me so excited for the next 33 years of life.”

A third replied: “You are such a role model. I genuinely aspire to be like you in my 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. Putting in the work now by building strength (+more physical skills), confidence, and self-compassion so that even with my chronic disease.

“I can do the things that matter to me most for many years to come.”

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “Totally. I’m 52 and do strength training to whisk me into older age for a longer and healthier journey.”

The personal trainer is known for giving advice and inspiring women to improve their health. She has earned a large following on social media thanks to her positive attitude.

The fit grandmother recently encouraged people to embrace wearing shorts this summer. Despite promoting body positivity and helping others feel confident, even Jacqueline is subjected to unkind comments from online trolls from time to time.

She recently revealed she receives cruel comments about her knees being “about to break”. However, she brushes off these remarks by remembering everything her knees do for her, including allowing her to run the London Marathon
