Sunrise host Nat Barr has taken aim at former British prime minister Boris Johnson for revealing in his upcoming memoir Unleashed that Queen Elizabeth II was suffering from bone cancer before her death.
In the book, Johnson said he had known for almost a year about the late monarch’s condition and was told her doctors were worried she could go into a “sharp decline” at any moment.

Johnson revealed his final meeting with Queen Elizabeth II was at Balmoral Castle in September 2022, just days before she died and the crown passed to her eldest son, King Charles III.
The Queen’s death was officially listed as “old age” on her death certificate.
Speaking about the memoir on Sunrise, Barr took aim at Johnson for the bombshell revelations.
“Dog act, Boris,” Barr said, sternly.
“If the royal family or the Queen had wanted to release that (information), they would have. They would all have known. So, to sell a book, I think that’s appalling,” she added.
Co-host Matt Shirvington was equally strident in his criticism: “To break the Queen’s confidence in that way …. just horrible.”
This is not the first time revelations have been made about Queen Elizabeth suffering from cancer, with royal historian Gyles Brandreth making similar claims in his book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, in 2022.
“I had heard that the Queen had a form of myeloma—bone marrow cancer,” Brandreth wrote.
“The most common symptom of myeloma is bone pain, especially in the pelvis and lower back, and multiple myeloma is a disease that often affects the elderly.
“Currently, there is no known cure, but treatment—including medicines to help regulate the immune system and drugs that help prevent the weakening of the bones—can reduce the severity of its symptoms and extend the patient’s survival by months or two to three years.”
The revelation comes after King Charles III publicly revealed his cancer battle earlier this year, following a procedure on his prostate. Princess Kate was also forced to undergo chemotherapy treatment for cancer in recent months after an abdominal procedure.
Royal documents filed at the UK’s National Archives are kept from the public for 100 years.
