Her fans also love the cooking adventures she shares from her home kitchen when the Sunrise shift is done.
But an attempt to make soup on a chilly Sydney day didn’t quite go according to plan, as Nat’s cooking video from Wednesday showed.
“Hi, I’m back it’s been a while,” Nat said, referring to her less frequent cooking videos of late.
“Haven’t been doing too much cooking; kids left, couldn’t be bothered really, but got inspired by (Sunrise nutritionist) Sarah Di Lorenzo making this beautiful carrot and ginger soup, we had it on the set the other day and it was delicious.”
Nat began preparing the soup, putting carrots, celery, onion, ginger and garlic into a cooking pot.
Then it was time to get out of the work clothes, scrub the makeup off, and switch into comfy clothes while she waited for the veggies to soften up in some soup stock.
“OK, it’s soft,” Nat announced, now wearing a white sweater as she prepared to “zhush” the mixture with a stick mixer.
“OK, I better do this without you seeing it because it’s gonna be ages,” she continued.
Next, Nat got ready to smooth out the soup mixture in a big kitchen blender.
But as soon as she pressed the start button, the lid lifted up and bright orange soup splattered all over the kitchen.
A shocked looking Nat stood staring at the camera, mouth open.
She then zoomed in on the destruction — carrot coloured soup mix all over the kitchen benches, egg cartons, the walls, appliance cords, a sandwich maker — but not, seemingly miraculously, all over Nat’s white sweater.
Next up, Nat shared video from the aftermath of the Vitamix explosion as she taste-tested the soup, still looking a little shell-shocked.
“I’ve recovered,” she said, holding a soup spoon in her hand.
“I think the heat may have blown the lid off the Vitamix!
“I almost burned myself.
“Anyway, I’m OK, thanks for your concern.
“I’m eating it; I think too much celery, but not bad — I can taste the ginger, needs more carrot.”
Suddenly, there was the sound of a door opening in the background.
“Husband’s home,” she announced, before sharing the recipe in a separate Instagram story.
Proof that cooking at home doesn’t always go to plan, even when the recipe is inspired by the best in the business.
