If you were planning on doing some PC gaming on this fine August evening, then do we have some bad news for you. Steam servers are currently down, leaving PC users unable to connect to the network and play games online. The Steam server status makes grim reading for fans, who have complained about not being able to access the network. Independent website Down Detector has received thousands of reports that Steam isn’t working. The outage tracker monitors social mentions around certain topics to detect when services go down across the world.
The Down Detector outage map shows that the Steam issues are affecting users in the UK, Europe and the US.
Judging by the reports, it appears to be routine maintenance, and the servers should be back online soon. Fingers crossed!
If you attempt to play on the Steam Deck, for example, then you’ll get a message telling you that the handheld can’t connect to the Steam Network.
The Steam Deck will continue to try to connect to the network, but will be unable to do so.
It’s also affecting purchases from the Steam Store, meaning you won’t see new purchases until the service comes back online.
Of course, the biggest drawback is that Steam users will be unable to play games online during the outage.
This means you can’t enjoy the new content available in games like Diablo 4 or Apex Legends.
Apex Legends Season 22 launched earlier today, alongside the new season of Diablo 4.
