St Kilda facing ‘delicate’ situation with out-of-contract veterans Seb Ross, Jimmy Webster, Brad Crouch and more

St Kilda are facing a “delicate” situation with a number of out-of-contract veterans on their list.

7NEWS Melbourne reporter Mitch Cleary revealed that 10 players in the Saints’ team against Geelong on Saturday night didn’t have a deal for next year.

Jimmy Webster, Mason Wood, Tim Membrey and Zak Jones were among the group, while veteran Seb Ross “may have played his last game” for the club.

Ross, who has played 211 games for the club, is sidelined with a calf injury and won’t play in the final game of the season next week.

It shapes as a busy off-season for the club with defender Josh Battle weighing up a monster six-year offer from Hawthorn.

“They have some delicate calls on some of their veterans on their list,” Cleary said on Channel 7.

“Seb Ross may well have played his last game for St Kilda because he is battling that calf injury. No contract offer as of yet for next year, but he does want to play on.

“Jimmy Webster out of contract too.

“Mason Wood I would expect to get a contract, but it has dragged on, which may open the door for some other clubs.

“Brad Crouch is contracted for next year, he hit a trigger to play on to 2025 but that degenerative knee injury means that he may get a payout option.

“Membrey is a free agent and will have suitors elsewhere.

“Zak Jones one of 10 players playing tonight without a contract for next year.”

Despite a number of older players seemingly set to depart, the Saints are also interested in veteran Bomber Dylan Shiel.

Shiel has been in decent form since returning to the senior side, but will be 32 by the time next season starts.

“They had interest in him last year before they had some concerns around his injuries,” Cleary said.

“There’s definite interest again this time for Dylan Shiel.

“It’s a real fascinating one, do you go for a player like this with the leadership capabilities he has got, but also you have lifelong Saints that you have to make a tough call on.”
