South Fremantle to ‘honour mate’ Nick Campo by taking to the field against Subiaco

Teammates of South Fremantle Colts player Nick Campo will push through their grief and take to the field on Saturday, saying they want to honour the late teen by playing.

Campo, 18, was killed in a car crash in North Lake on Saturday, an incident that also left teammate Tyler Rowe fighting for life in hospital.

Their club said it had been working closely with its playing group, coaches, welfare resources and football stakeholders to determine whether Saturday’s game against Subiaco would go ahead at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

“The Campo family and our colts squad have communicated a strong desire for the game to proceed in tribute to Nick and in support of teammate Tyler Rowe, who is still fighting in hospital,” the club said.

“Following all available welfare advice and with our players’ strong desire to honour their mate at the forefront of our decision, the South Fremantle vs Subiaco Colts game will proceed.
