Sequins, Feathers, and Silks! What Vogue Editors Are Wearing to Their Holiday Parties

For holiday outfit inspiration, my colleagues have ample ideas for what you might want to wear for next weekend and beyond. Fashion can bring so much joy, and putting together this edit did just that for me—what else are feathers for? Vogue.com editor Chloe Malle put it perhaps best: “As far as I’m concerned, December in New York is time for velvet, sequins, bells, feathers—anything that would be appealing to a kitten!” Surely, the Dogues approve, too.

Chloe Malle, Editor, Vogue.com

As far as I’m concerned December in New York is time for velvet, sequins, bells, feathers, anything that would be appealing to a kitten! For holiday parties I plan to wear a pair of cigarette trousers with Attersee’s velvet vest minidress or a sparkly shirt and top, and add feathers if possible!

I love ivory silk during the holiday season. It’s elegant and chic, and pairs perfectly with pieces in the wardrobe that aren’t new, such as a black trouser or skirt. One also happens to make the perfect blank canvas for a festive earring or clutch. As someone who doesn’t wear much color, I like to take advantage of the fact that it’s one of the only appropriate times of the year that you can wear white to a celebratory occasion! You also can’t go wrong with a textured top when the dress code calls for black!

As someone who normally shies away from color, I’m obsessed with this season’s new hue—oxblood, merlot, burgundy, whatever you want to call it. This matching set makes wearing something other than neutrals easy and uncomplicated. Veronica de Piante is a favorite new brand of mine, her fabrics are really luxe and I love her jacket shapes, which are structured and tailored but overly masculine. Speaking of new brands, jewelry label Tabayer and their sculptural modernist rings are a chic finishing touch. I have these Manolo’s in three colors—if it’s not broken, don’t try and fix it!

Playful glamour is the mood! That means sequins and knits, my favorite combination for day to night, with chic heels and tights. I love the contrast of Vince’s paillette skirt in the shade of the season, burgundy, paired with Almada’s heavier weight crewneck. I’ll be styling it with Emme Parsons’s patent leather kitten heels from our Party Dressing edit, and can’t stop thinking about the Attersee Brea bag—a perfect plus one for anything evening related.

As the editor of Vogue Parties, it goes without saying I’m in a party dress more days than not. When it comes to party dressing, though, I have embraced the classics—velvet and splashes of red. This draped velvet dress from Ganni is the blank canvas for some red accessories. I’ve been on a Judith Leiber craze lately and The RealReal has some steals! And then, if you want to ensure you’re the only one in your look at the holiday party, go for small batch fashion like pieces from One/Of. How fab is this statement coat?

I love the idea of pairing a slip dress over my favorite The Row silk pants for a chic, and not too fussy, holiday party look. A simple mule and pair of drop earrings completes the look!

Destree’s puff-sleeve blouse in black is a staple in my everyday wardrobe, so when I saw it in this festive red, I knew I had to have it in my holiday rotation. Not to mention that when teamed up with a matching miniskirt, it’s a chic alternative to a somewhat expected party dress. Styling-wise, I plan on wearing mine with a sheer black tight and pair of pointed-toe kitten heels. I imagine it’s what all modern-ladylike dressers will be wearing this holiday season.

I’m leaning into texture this holiday season and have my eye on this La Veste fringe skirt (that I would wear with a slip for the office..of course!) I’m planning on pairing it with a simple cozy sweater, some cute little red kitten heels, and a pair of fun dangly earrings for a festive pop of color.

Everyone on the team knows I’m a dress and skirt kind of gal, and I don’t like to stray too far from my ethos come holiday season. It’s important to always feel like yourself! For gatherings, I’m looking to classic black dresses with a twist (like a lace underlay or asymmetric hemline.) I like to top it all off with oversized, sculptural earrings and a dark lip!

I love a long-sleeved black bodycon dress because I think it creates a beautiful, sleek line. I’m especially into these picks from Staud and Saint Laurent thanks to their back details. Still, they aren’t too showy, so if you’re craving some more holiday pizzazz, feel free to accessorize them to your heart’s content.

I’m reaching for this amazing black sheer overlay skirt from Vince with a belted burgundy velvet top (hello, color of the season!) and finishing it off with a pair of black sky-high patent slingbacks.

For the holiday office party, I’d plan to wear a crisp white shirt with Diotima’s Darliston midi skirt, which I’ve been obsessed with since I saw it at the brand’s NYFW presentation. The gold and silver detailing feels right for a holiday party. I’d pair it with a little black bralette and some gold Prada slingbacks for an added holiday spark. The ones I got at the sample sale are sold out, but there are plenty of alternatives available. (Note: this is purely hypothetical because the Diotima skirt is, a, on pre-order and, b, out of my budget.)

My perfect party look starts with a dress I can dance in, and I’ve been thinking about this one by 16 Arlington for months; It was made for twirling. And speaking of twirling, these Gucci slingbacks? Between the burgundy patent leather and crystal embellishments, they’re a party look essential. Also, perhaps this is the year I’ll add the most over-the-top—and holiday appropriate—handbag of them all to my collection: a Judith Leiber clutch–preferably the martini!

I’ve been meaning to purchase a pair of embellished jeans and the holidays are the perfect season to make the call. As a denim lover, these fun jeans from Sea can not only take me through the work day but also out right after to grab a drink or attend a holiday party or two. This baby blue satin top from Paris Georgia pairs very well with the shade of the denim on the Sea jeans and for a warm layer, I’ll be pairing it with a faux fur jacket on top.

My ideal holiday look is all-black — I tend to lean into classic dressing for festive parties. But with a modern twist: a silky black shirt, leather pants, and heeled boots will be my uniform come December. And a single dangly earring for a statement.

I’m really big on black maxi dresses—accessorized with heels and sparkling jewels for holiday, but maybe boots and a blazer for work. To create a lasting holiday wardrobe, I look for classic silhouettes like this Cos option, unlikely to go out of style season after season.

I’m attempting to be a more intentional shopper, so I do my best to make sure any holiday-esque outfits that I purchase can also be worn as separates throughout the year. Afterall, dark-colored hair and deep reds is a consistently chic combo!
