Selena Gomez Tries Power Leather

We’re just touching base re: Selena Gomez and her corpo-leather look!

Today, the Rare Beauty founder attended the TIME100 Summit at the Lincoln Center, along with fellow honorees. While other celebrity attendees, including Elliot Page and Shailene Woodley, opted for more office-friendly button-downs, Gomez chose to make a leather dress a part of her power dressing.

Gomez—who also made the TIME100 list in 2020—wore a fitted maxi dress by Brandon Maxwell for the ocassion. The look featured patent leather panels, which mimicked a corset top, and an ankle-length skirt complete with a back slit. She accessorized with sleek black open-toe pumps and a diamond tennis necklace. While walking into the building, she shrouded herself in an oversized black leather trench coat from Ducie and a pair of Linda Farrow cat-eye sunglasses.

While many of us probably reach for a button-down and a pair of slacks in the morning, Gomez is issuing a friendly reminder that business attire can include a host of different options. Of course, not everyone works in the an office that would be receptive to a leather bustier dress (hello, HR!) but there are plenty of ways to incorporate similar styling cues into our quotidian cotton poplin tops and poly-blend trousers. Try, perhaps, a leather trench coat, or break out your tennis necklace, even if it feels too formal for the cubicle.

So if you need us, we’ll be off-lining about Selena Gomez and how we can recreate her look here in the Vogue office. We’ll circle back later!
