Bo Bichette’s return to the Toronto Blue Jays didn’t last long.
The shortstop was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fracture to his right middle finger, effectively ending his season, the team announced Thursday.
Bichette made his long-awaited return to the Blue Jays on Tuesday after missing more than two months with a calf strain. He has battled multiple calf injuries this year and finishes his season playing just 81 of 162 games.
This marks the second time this year Bichette returned for one game before going right back on the injured list.
Bichette was a late scratch on Wednesday with the team saying he hand a right middle finger contusion.
After a 2-0 loss to Texas on Wednesday, Toronto manager John Schneider told reporters that Bichette suffered the injury while taking ground balls before the game.
In Bichette’s return Tuesday, the 26-year-old went 2-for-5 with two singles in Toronto’s 13-8 loss.
The two-time All-Star batted .225 with four home runs and five stolen bases this year.
Bichette figures to remain in the spotlight in the off-season as he prepares to enter his final season under club control.
Outfielder Jonatan Clase has been recalled to take Bichette’s spot on the roster.
