Saturday Night Live Finds The Positives In Alaska Airlines’ Recent Turmoil

Alaska Airlines has been having a tough time as of late. Back in October of 2023, an off-duty Alaska pilot tried to shut off a plane’s engines mid-flight while he was on mushrooms, and earlier this month, a door plug ripped from the fuselage of a Boeing 737-Max 9 while the plane was 16,000 feet in the air. These issues, to most people, would be looked at as a negative, but Saturday Night Live is offering a different perspective — a far more positive one.

You see, SNL has decided to take the viewpoint that all of these rather unfortunate incidents happening on Alaska flights are really just great stories you can tell your friends and family once you finish your emergency landing. It’s not like you died!

Alaska Airlines Ad – SNL

“Here at Alaska, safety is our number one concern,” Jacob Elordi, playing an Alaska employee says. That’s innocent enough, but it’s immediately followed up by Kenan Thompson, playing another Alaska employee, saying, “But, you gotta admit it looked pretty cool — plane flying around, no door.”

He’s not wrong, to be honest. It did look pretty cool. If I were on that plane, I’d literally never stop talking about it, so I can see why part of your plane ripping apart would be a cool thing, actually. Because of this, SNL came up with a new slogan for Alaska: “You didn’t die, and you got a cool story.” That’s hard to argue against.

Don’t be too worried though. Alaska will apparently be making some changes to improve safety ever so slightly.

“You know those bolts that, like, hold the plane together? We’re gonna go ahead and tighten some of those,” Elordi says while being the most handsome boy you’ve ever seen.

That’s all great, but perhaps my favorite bit in the whole sketch is when they bring in Sully Sullenberger who admits he probably cannot do it again. He’s much older now.

Anyway, I won’t give too much away. You should definitely check out the sketch on YouTube for the full experience. I know SNL has been rocky for a while now, but this one is worth it.
