Rumoured I’m A Celeb contestant Frankie Dettori’s ‘medical reason’ for wearing sunglasses

A legendary sportsman revealed he had “medical reasons” for wearing sunglasses during a recent TV appearance.

Jockey Frankie Dettori opened up about his eye health while being interviewed at the Melbourne Cup earlier this month.

The 52-year-old was not competing himself in the annual event but featured as a studio guest.

An hour before “the race that stops the nation” Dettori was asked why he was wearing sunnies, to which he cited “medical reasons”.

As reported by The Sun, he said: “I had lenses put in my eyes three months ago so the lights are quite bright for me. I have medical reasons.”

This comes as Dettori is rumoured to be one of the contestants in the latest series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

While not yet confirmed by ITV, it is believed Dettori could feature as a latecomer on the show, alongside boxer Tony Bellew.

Confirmed celebs include Britney Spears’ sister Jamie Lynn, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage and TV host Josie Gibson.

Spending three weeks in the Australian jungle, the contestants will undergo challenges to win food and luxury items, with one ultimately being crowned king or queen of the jungle.

But Dettori is no stranger to competing.

Over his 35-year career he has been British flat racing Champion Jockey three times – in 1994, 1995 and 2004.

He has won races in numerous countries including the UK, the US, France, Ireland, Qatar, Japan and Canada.

In December last year he announced he would be retiring from the world of competitive horse racing.

However, in a U-turn in October, he revealed that instead of retiring he could move to the US and race there and on the international circuit.

Outside of racing he has appeared as a team captain on the BBC’s A Question of Sport and has also taken part in Celebrity Big Brother.

It is rumoured he could be being paid up to £500,000 to feature on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

The show will air on Sunday, November 19.
