Royal Ascot guests stun in weird and wonderful hats for debut race

Royal Ascot is one of the UK’s most prestigious horse racing events with a secondary status a fashion event in its own right.

Renowned for its elegant dress code, guests never fail to impress with their timeless looks which often come with an edge.

The Royal Ascot 2024 debut has welcomed a multitude of impeccably dressed guests, many of whom have gone all out with their accessories – particularly headwear.

Hats, fascinators and so-called ‘hatinator’ designs have been taken to new heights this year with an eye-catching display of bold colours and weird patterns donned by racegoers.

Express.co.uk has rounded up the most out-there looks paraded in the company of King Charles and Queen Camilla at Royal Ascot 2024.

Bountiful bouquet hats

Sizeable floral hats were donned by three women who attended the first day of Royal Ascot in pastel-coloured gowns adorned in elegant details.

One woman was a vision in green with a bouquet-inspired hat which resembled a lotus flower, while her pretty-in-pink companion opted for a striking mix of pink, white and green hues for her large hat and dress ensemble. A third racegoer was easy to spot in her ethereal pink and red outfit with a short hemline.

Sweet nostalgia

Supersized hats and fascinators weren’t the only theme at Royal Ascot today, with pink making a frequent appearance in the guests’ race attire. One woman was inspired by the nostalgic sweet, Swizzels Love Hearts, of which seven model versions appeared on her hat. Adorned with text like ‘Be mine’ and ‘Kiss Me’, the bespoke, wide-brim design was decorated with red feathers for the extra wow factor.
