The Toronto Raptors will start training camp without Bruce Brown on the floor.
Toronto announced Friday that Brown underwent an arthroscopic surgical procedure on his right knee and will be re-evaluated in three weeks. The team said that after the three weeks, “his condition will then be updated as appropriate.”
The Raptors picked up Brown’s $23-million player option in June to keep him with the team for the 2024-25 season. The 27-year-old guard joined Toronto in January as part of the return in the deal that sent Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers.
In 34 games with the Raptors last season, Brown averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists on 55.7 per cent true shooting.
After winning a championship with the Denver Nuggets in 2023, Brown signed with Indiana before the 2023-24 season on a two-year, $45-million contract. The second year was a club option the Raptors gained control over once the former 42nd-overall pick arrived in Toronto.
The Raptors are scheduled to hold their first training camp practice on Oct. 1 in Montreal. They kick off their pre-season schedule on Oct. 6, when they will host the Washington Wizards at the Bell Centre as part of the 10th edition of the NBA Canada Series.
Toronto will open the regular season at home on Oct. 23 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
