An Ontario artist has paid tribute to the players from the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) by using their sticks to create an oversized hockey helmet sculpture.

The Inaugural Six, by Erin, Ont., by artist Briony Douglas, is described as a tribute to the athletes who set the stage for future generations.
“When I first imagined this sculpture, I wanted it to not only represent the strength of the players but also the legacy they’re building,” Douglas said in a statement.
“Each stick tells a story – of the goals scored, the battles fought on and off the ice, and the passion these athletes pour into every game. The Inaugural Six is about more than hockey; it’s about breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations.”
Four-feet tall and six-feet wide, The Inaugural Six, a collaboration between Douglas, the PWHL and paper product company Royale, is meant to symbolize “the unity, strength, and resilience of the players.”
It features hockey sticks from the six PWHL teams — Boston, Minnesota, Montreal, New York, Ottawa, and Toronto — and will be on display at the Eaton Centre from Nov. 25-28, leading up to the Nov. 30 start of the PWHL season.
