(NewsNation) — Stephen A. Smith tells “CUOMO” that while he is fine with President Joe Biden pardoning his son Hunter Biden, he does not agree with the president’s choice to call his son’s litigation “politically motivated” and a “witch hunt.”
Smith, alongside Chris Cuomo, recommends Biden pardon Donald Trump as well.
“Honestly, I would, Chris. That’s exactly what I would do. … Enough is enough,” Smith said. “You’re the Democrat. You lost. You lost the election. You got your butt whipped. You couldn’t prevent him from going back to the White House.”
Smith cited Trump’s now-dwindling legal battles, which have decreased since the late November decisions to end Trump’s classified documents case and dismiss his election interference case.
“More than a dozen cases have been dropped against him. The cases that have been ruled against him, he’s going to appeal, and he’ll probably get off from having to deal with all of that,” Smith said.
“It’s time to move forward. You want to get at Trump, sit back and judge what he does,” he added.
Smith referenced Gerald Ford’s 1974 pardon of Richard Nixon, who resigned amid the Watergate scandal and threat of impeachment.
“He could have let Nixon suffer. You’re going to say he didn’t let that happen. Why? Because it was for the good of the country,” Smith said.
Notably, a pardon carries an admission of guilt, so if Biden were to pardon Trump and the president-elect accepted, he would be shouldering responsibility for the numerous charges laid out against him.
