While on face value it looked like a standard hamstring injury, replays showed the painful incident that caused it.

After flying for a mark, Marshall was lying on the ground when Dixon came over the top. Dixon inadvertently landed on Marshall’s leg and his body weight forced Marshall’s leg back in an unnatural position.

Marshall was later seen on the bench distraught and quickly ruled out for the remainder of the match.

The club tweeted it was a hip injury despite commentators initially believing it was a hamstring problem.

It was the second player the Power had lost for the game after earlier losing Lachie Jones to a concussion.

Jones had his head over the ball when an on-rushing Alex Davies clattered into his head.

The incident is certain to draw scrutiny from the match review officer.

Miles Bergman also limped from the field in the second quarter after a heavy collision with teammate Aliir Aliir in a marking contest.

But Bergman was able to continue playing after half-time.
