Popular West Coast vice-captain Tom Barrass makes bombshell trade request to Hawthorn

Popular West Coast veteran Tom Barrass has confirmed his desire to be traded to Hawthorn.

The star defender told the AFL club of his wishes in his exit meeting this week, after it had previously been reported that he had met with Hawks coach Sam Mitchell.

West Coast have since said they will “protect their best interests” while doing a deal for the under-contract player.

“Tom has today informed us of his desire to pursue an opportunity at another club,” Eagles football manager Gavin Bell said.

“While the club respects Tom’s request, he is contracted for another three seasons and our vice-captain.

“We will endeavour to meet Tom’s request while protecting the best interests of the West Coast Eagles.”

The 28-year-old Barrass has played 150 games for West Coast was their best-and-fairest winner in 2022.

His current contract runs out at the end of 2027.
