1. What is your favorite memory of the PhotoVogue Festival 2023?
Definitely meeting so many photographers who followed their careers before, it is like meeting your heroes and of course also meeting them in a more personal way and also meeting the entire team behind the festival who put in their time to present our work as photographers in a unique way. emerging.
2. In your practice, what do you feel it’s important to have in mind when you portray people who have been underrepresented? Do you have any suggestions for other artists?
I believe that in Latin America, as in parts of the United States, a new wave is beginning regarding the representation of Latinos in various areas. My perspective focuses mainly on the representation of the people of southern Mexico where there is more indigenous roots, For me this is important because it is how I have felt identified since I was born and believed in Oaxaca, for a long time and when I started at 23 years old in fashion and portrait photography, these faces were not shown in magazines, advertising or screens. Photographing all these people (from models to women and men artisans) is a way to honour their history, their heritage and, above all, their inner and external beauty. This is why I would advise other artists to look around them, to tell the stories, the struggles, and the dreams of those people they identify with. By looking within ourselves we are able to change the panoramas and make known thousands of stories that had not been told.
