(NewsNation) — Emmy Award-winning actor Jim O’Heir has a new book sharing stories and secrets from behind the scenes of the hit show “Parks and Recreation.”
“Welcome to Pawnee” takes a look at the experience of the cast and crew of the mockumentary-style show that has become a comfort watch for many. Take a tour of the fictional town of Pawnee, which is first in friendship and fourth in obesity, as declared by Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler.
“It was a laugh a minute,” O’Heir told NewsNation. “Some of the things were impromptu, you never knew what was coming.”
The actor said interviewing his former colleagues revealed information even he didn’t know about the series based on the experiences of others.
O’Heir called the show and cast a gift, painting the talent of his co-stars, including Amy Poehler.
“Every day, we did this thing called the ‘fun run.’ After the scene was done, we could do whatever the heck we wanted,” he said. “I think that’s what kept us tight as a cast, because that’s playing, improvisation. You’re playing.”
Some of these improv movements include the infamous “connectivity problems” line from season 3 said by the character Andy Dwyer, played by Chris Pratt.
On the legacy of the show, O’Heir said the characters have gone into people’s hearts and he’s thrilled to have been a part of a series that touched so many.
