Lincoln doesn’t make sedans anymore, instead following parent Ford’s lead and going all-in on luxury SUVs and crossovers. The brand’s last crack at a sedan was the tenth-generation Continental that debuted for the 2017 model year. Unfortunately it was a flop, but just before the model was dropped from production, Lincoln decided to send it off with a bang by creating a super exclusive version called the Coach Door Edition. Only 230 were ever made, and one of those Coach Door Continentals is currently for sale on Bring A Trailer.
The Coach Door Edition was built in two batches, the first of which debuted in 2019 as the first Lincoln to have a price tag above $100,000. Only 80 of the 2019 model year were ever made. In 2020, Lincoln built another 150 of the Coach Door cars, apparently due to (relatively) high demand. The model is an homage to the 1969 Continental, featuring rear-hinged doors like the classic model.
Lincoln designed the doors with the help of Cabot Coach Builders of Haverhill, Massachusetts. More was done to the Continental than just giving it those suicide doors. To increase rear passenger room and comfort, a full six inches was added to the cars wheelbase, and it gained a new quarter window between the C- and D-pillars. The doors opened a full 90 degrees for better ingress and egress.
All Coach Door Editions were based on the top-end Continental Black Label trim. It was available with touches like unique Crystal Chroma Blue Metallic paint, an Alpine Venetian leather interior with Espresso upholstery and Silverwood accents, a full-length rear center console turning the car into a four-seater, a 19-speaker Revel Ultima sound system and Lincoln’s slick 30-way power adjustable front seats. Best of all, power came from a 400-horsepower 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 that’s routed to an all-wheel-drive system and six-speed automatic transmission.
This particular example has seen three owners, none of whom really drove the car as it has just 1,100 miles on it. While this Continental originally wore an MSRP of over $116,000, current bidding as of this writing has it sitting at $50,000. Though with its rarity it should sell for more, possibly even more than its original MSRP.
