Andy Murray fights back tears in final farewell to fans after Olympic doubles defeat

Day seven of the Olympics sees Team GB’s track stars in action with a full day of athletics as Keely Hodgkinson, Dina Asher-Smith and team captain Josh Kerr feature in a busy schedule at Paris 2024.

Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding successfully made it four medals out of four in the diving for Team GB, claiming bronze in the 3m springboard. It came just moments after Oliver Wynne-Griffith and Thomas George won rowing silver in the men’s pair, after Croatia clinched gold on the line.

Later, look out for France’s Olympic superstars, too, as Judo king Teddy Riner aims for gold, and Leon Marchand can win a fourth swimming gold medal with Ben Proud, Duncan Scott and Tom Dean also in action at La Defense Arena.

An emotional night saw Andy Murray finally walk away from tennis following his doubles defeat alongside Dan Evans. While Simone Biles added a glorious sixth gold medal to her collection in the individual all-around.

Olympics 2024 – Diving

Lawrence Ostlere reports from the Aquatics Centre:

Great Britain’s Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding nail their final dive! Rounds three and five were excellent but they saved the best until last, an immaculate forward 4½ somersaults rewarded with 94.62 points. They hug, knowing they’ve given this everything… Mexico’s dive is good too and a huge roar goes around the arena, and it’s just enough to pip GB to silver. China win gold, and the British pair take bronze.

Olympics 2024: Women’s High Jump

A third miss at 1.92m for Morgan Lake means she’s likely going to miss out on the women’s high jump final.

She’s failed to clear it in three attempts and there are now more than 12 of her competitors past that height meaning the Briton will not be in Monday’s final.

Olympics 2024: Women’s 100m first round

A 10.94 for Sha’Carri Richardson in her first run of these Olympics, easing to to victory in the opening heat of the day. The American is such a compact, controlled runner. She made that look effortless.

Her time is beaten by Great Britian’s Daryll Neita, the national champion, who benefits from a competitive heat with American’s Melissa Jefferson to nip across the line in 10.92. Strong from Neita, who was eighth in Tokyo three years ago. She sets a season’s best.

Olympics 2024: Rowing

There are a few more races before Team GB’s next medal opportunity in the rowing when Emily Craig and Imogen Grant try to claim lightweight double sculls.

The Olympics is a strange beast. Some silver medals feel incredible and the peak of an athlete’s prowess, others feel like defeat and a missed opportunity.

After controlling that race for almost 1900m, Oli Wynne-Griffiths and Tom George will sadly be in the latter camp right now. In time they’ll realise that a silver medal is better than the bronze they collected in Tokyo and that it is an amazing achievement.

Olympics 2024: Rowing – TEAM GB WIN SILVER IN MEN’S PAIR

Croatia have come from nowhere, they’ve left their move late but are pushing on. They’re moving quicker than the Brits, inside 70m and they’ve reined them in!

Wynne-Griffiths and George keep up their work rate but they can’t handle the attack. Croatia steal the momentum and cross the line for the gold!

Team GB take silver after a heartbreaking final 100m or so. What a finish from Croatia though.
