Olympic Games Paris 2024: Day 7 events to watch, schedule

The first full day of track and field highlights the Day 7 action at the Olympics on Friday in Paris.

Canadians are expected to be a force throughout the athletics competition.

Damian Warner (track and field, decathlon, starts at 4:05 a.m.)

The Canadian begins his quest to win a third straight Olympic medal. Warner captured gold in Tokyo and bronze in Rio de Janeiro. His top rival, France’s Kevin Mayer, dropped out because of injury on Thursday.

Ethan Katzberg (track and field, men’s hammer throw qualification, 4:10 a.m.)

The Canadian won the world championship last year and has remained very strong this year.

Sophiane Methot (women’s trampoline, 6 a.m.)

The Canadian finished fifth in this event at last year’s world championships. Methot is making her Olympic debut.

Felix Auger-Aliassime (tennis, men’s semifinal, 7:30 a.m.; mixed doubles bronze-medal match after suitable rest)

The Canadian will be an underdog for a third match in a row when he clashes with Spain star Carlos Alcaraz in a men’s semifinal. Later, he will team up with Gabriela Dabrowski in the mixed doubles bronze-medal match against Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands.

Canadian men’s basketball team (vs. Spain, 11:15 a.m.)

Canada looks to finish the preliminary round at 3-0 and get as favourable a quarterfinal matchup as possible.

Kylie Masse (swimming, women’s 200-m backstroke final, 2:36 p.m.)

The four-time Olympic medal winner just missed the podium in her first race in France, finishing fourth in the 100- backstroke.
