NRL releases statement on viral image of Panthers hero Mitch Kenny

The NRL and Penrith are aware of an alleged photo of Panthers star Mitch Kenny circulating online.

The image seems to be a screenshot from Kenny’s Instagram account, and appears to show him in the back of a car with the caption: “Couple Boxing Day lines have got me in troubleeee.”

It was posted on Tuesday before being quickly deleted, but not before screenshots were taken and circulated online.

The NRL has been asked about the image.

“The NRL is aware of the matter and will be liaising with the club,” the league said in a statement.

The Panthers have also confirmed they are aware of the photo of their player, but have decided not to comment publicly.

Kenny later posted a message on his Instagram account, seeming to address the photo.

“Happy New Year guys. Enjoy and ignore trolls who grabbed my phone. Happy New Year,” he wrote.

The 25-year-old has been a key cog in the Panthers’ premiership three-peat in the past three years, scoring a try in the 2023 decider against the Broncos.

He is contracted to the powerhouse NRL club until the end of near year.
