Nicole Kidman stays working in Hollywood. Is there a busier and more in-demand A-lister than her? While she is currently generating awards buzz for this year’s Babygirl, the actor marked the New York City premiere of her latest project last night: Vicky Jenson’s animated musical Spellbound, in which Kidman voices the character of Queen Ellsmere. And, as usual, Kidman was sure to bring a stellar fashion look for the red carpet. In her white Dolce & Gabbana gown with lace detailing, the frock was hauntingly romantic—a signature Kidman aesthetic.
On-screen, Kidman has worn many retro white dresses over the years, all of which evoke a sense of eerie whimsy. Remember the 19th-century white gowns Kidman wore in 2017’s The Beguiled, from director Sofia Coppola? Or the silky 1940s-era white nightgowns she slipped on for 2001’s creepy horror flick The Others? Her latest Dolce gown is very in line with the wardrobe that lives on in her cinematic universe.
Off-screen, however, Kidman has also worn many hauntingly romantic white gowns on the step and repeat. In 2017, she wore Alexander McQueen’s white tulle and silver sequin gown that seemed plucked out of a dream; Earlier, in 2015, she wore a Valentino Couture white gown with sweet daisy appliqués. The ethereal look is fast becoming one of her go-to red carpet staples. Though, she also loves bold colors and metallics. That’s Kidman for you—always keeping you guessing. But in winter whites? She’s especially striking.
