Nightmare detail in $360 a week Sydney CBD rental

As Sydney’s rental crisis continues to wreak havoc on aspiring tenants, an enclosed balcony with a single bed has been advertised for $360 a week.

The fully furnished and “sunny room” in Haymarket in Sydney’s CBD was listed on Facebook Marketplace and is “ready to move in now”.

Photos of the room show a single bed in the enclosed balcony, with little space left for much else.

“Share bathroom with only 1 ppl. Ready to move in now. Easy to go anywhere,” the listing reads.

The balcony room is attached to a studio apartment, which is also being rented separately at $495 a week, in the Regis Towers complex in Haymarket.

The nightmare rental listing comes as a new report from Domain suggests rents in most major cities are finally beginning to either fall, stall, or are growing at a slower pace.

Low vacancy rates have pushed advertised rents higher for several months running, but the latest report from real estate platform Domain shows conditions are improving for renters.

Asking rents for houses fell 1.8 per cent in Hobart in the June quarter and held steady in Sydney and Perth, the report found.

Several other cities recorded slower rates of growth over the three months, with the pace of quarterly growth 1.5 times slower than the previous quarter across the combined capitals.

Similarly, for units, the pace of growth was halved across the combined capitals in the June quarter from the three months prior.
