Nicole Kidman is sharing her daughter’s reaction to watching her “get stoned” in the film “Eyes Wide Shut.”
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the Oscar winner, 57, said that her daughter Sunday, 16, recently watched scenes from the Stanley Kubrick-directed film while attending an event with her mom.
“At the AFI [Life Achievement Award] tribute, they saw the scene where I get stoned,” Kidman told the outlet in a story published Tuesday. “They showed that and I was like, ‘Ooooh. Golly. OK.’ I sat next to my daughter, Sunday, watching that.”
Kidman starred in the 1999 thriller film alongside her ex-husband Tom Cruise, with whom she shares two children, Bella and Connor. The star shares daughters Sunday and Faith with husband Keith Urban.
In the scene from “Eyes Wide Shut,” Kidman’s character admits to her unfulfilled fantasy of being intimate with a naval officer she met while smoking marijuana with her husband, Bill (played by Cruise).
While Kidman admitted she “definitely” doesn’t plan on watching the full film with her teens anytime soon, she was in awe of Sunday’s take on the scene from the R-rated project.
“[Sunday] said, ‘Mom, that was good.’ And then they showed that scene in [my 2004 mystery film] ‘Birth,’” Kidman continued. “And she said, ‘That was really good.’ And I watched that scene and thought, ‘Wow. That was really good.’ And I never do that.”
The “Big Little Lies” star opened up about how she leans on her younger daughters for candid feedback about her Hollywood career in an interview with People last month.
“They’re very supportive. But they’re also like, ‘OK, calm down,’” Kidman said of Sunday and Faith with a smile. “But I do think it’s important not to have sycophants [around you].”
She added, “And it’s not also seeking out really horrible criticism… We’re all a work in progress, as they say.”
