Mutual funds have Rs 6,000 crore investments in Vodafone Idea

The shares of Vodafone Idea plunged over 6% on Friday, extending losses to 24% in two straight sessions over AGR issues. An ET Mutual Fund analysis reveals that mutual funds had over Rs 6,000 crore investment in this telecom company as of August 2024 and held around 383 crore shares in their portfolio.

Around 32 mutual fund houses had investments in Vodafone Idea, of which 17 added more shares in August compared to July, 10 sold shares and five made no changes in the number of shares.

Kotak Mutual Fund had the highest holding of Rs 741.76 crore in Vodafone Idea in August, followed by ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund with a total holding of Rs 726.28 crore in the same period.

SBI Mutual Fund, the largest fund house based on assets managed, had Vi shares worth Rs 592 crore in their portfolio. HDFC Mutual Fund had a total holding of Rs 550 crore in August. PPFAS Mutual Fund and Mirae Asset Mutual Fund had Vi shares worth Rs 60 crore and Rs 53 crore, respectively.

Around nine mutual funds had holdings of less than Rs 10 crore of Vi as of August 2024. Zerodha Mutual Fund and Navi Mutual Fund had shares worth Rs 3.57 crore and Rs 2 crore, respectively.

Sundaram Mutual Fund, Groww Mutual Fund and PGIM India Mutual Fund had holdings of Rs 0.69 crore, Rs 0.36 crore, and Rs 0.31 crore, respectively.

Around 100 mutual fund schemes had Vodafone Idea in their respective portfolios in August 2024. Among these, arbitrage funds and equity savings funds had the highest allocation.

Nippon India Arbitrage Fund had around 36.18 crore shares worth Rs 565 crore in its portfolio. Kotak Equity Arbitrage Fund had total holding worth Rs 547 crore, followed by ICICI Pru Equity-Arbitrage Fund, which had a holding of Rs 527 crore .

Kotak Multi Asset Allocation Fund had around 8.25 crore shares in its portfolio worth Rs 129 crore. UTI Arbitrage Fund and Bandhan Arbitrage Fund had a holding of Rs 113 crore and Rs 106 crore respectively in August.

Around 83 mutual fund schemes had a holding of less than Rs 100 crore in Vodafone Idea. HDFC Large and Mid Cap Fund and HDFC Balanced Advantage Fund had a total holding of Rs 83 crore and Rs 69 crore, respectively.

Parag Parikh Dynamic Asset Allocation Fund had 1.14 crore Vi shares in its portfolio which were of Rs 17 crore. Aditya Birla SL Pure Value Fund had 40.07 lakh shares of Vodafone Idea in its portfolio.

Aditya Birla SL Digital India Fund and Aditya Birla SL Dividend Yield Fund had a total holding worth Rs 1.53 crore and Rs 1.39 crore, respectively. Zerodha ELSS Tax Saver Nifty LargeMidcap 250 Index Fund had shares worth Rs 0.59 crore. HDFC BSE 500 ETF, the last on the list, had an allocation of Rs 0.02 crore with 15,978 shares in its portfolio.
