Mounties issue Canada-wide warrant for semi-driver charged in deadly crash

Manitoba RCMP have issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for the semi-driver involved in a crash that killed an eight-year-old girl and her mother.

On Thursday, police identified the driver involved in the fatal crash as 25-year-old Navjeet Singh of Brampton, Ontario. Singh has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, along with obstructing a peace officer.

The charges have not been tested in court.

They are in connection to the deadly crash last Friday about 13 kilometres west of Altona, Man. Investigators alleged the driver of the semi-truck failed to stop at an intersection and collided with an SUV. The 35-year-old woman driving the SUV along with her eight-year-old daughter died in the crash.

At the time, police said the driver of the semi was taken to hospital, treated for injuries, and released.

But as of Thursday, RCMP said officers can’t find Singh.

“Officers have attempted to locate Mr. Singh in Winnipeg without success and as a result, a Canada-Wide Warrant of Arrest has been issued,” a release from RCMP reads.

Anyone with information is asked to call local police or the Pembina Valley RCMP at 204-822-5469. People can also report it to Crime Stoppers.

This is a developing story. More to come.
