A mother and her young daughter have been trapped by downed power lines when another vehicle crashed into a power pole, sending it toppling onto their car in Sydney’s southwest.
A Tesla hit the power pole on Raymond St at Bankstown, in the city’s southwest, about 10.45am on Thursday.
The impact caused the pole and power lines to fall onto a Subaru on the intersecting Restwell St, NSW Police said.

The woman and child were trapped under the downed power lines until the electricity running through them could be shut off.
Fire and Rescue NSW told 7NEWS.com.au the power pole was “completely snapped off”.
The mother and daughter remained trapped inside the Subaru until an energy authority confirmed the power lines had been “de-energised”, giving firefighters the green light to get them out, FRNSW said.
“She was made to stay in her vehicle for at least one hour while we confirmed that that power had been switched off,” FRNSW spokesperson Chris Andrews said.
The woman and child were then assessed at the scene by paramedics.
Two elderly people were also trapped inside the Tesla, with specialist FRNSW teams needed to remove the doors to free them.
They were taken to Liverpool Hospital, one with multiple minor injuries, NSW Ambulance said.
Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
Authorities remained on scene for hours trying to reconnect power to the area.
