More than 200,000 South Australians to get $244 cost-of-living payment

South Australian concession card holders will receive a $243.90 cost-of-living payment into their bank accounts by the end of the week.

More than 210,000 South Australians will receive the payment announced under the state budget if they are a low-income earner, have a concession card or receive some Centrelink payments.

The money will be paid automatically into bank accounts with the description Concessions COLC for people signed up to the SA government’s existing Cost-of-Living Concession Payment scheme.

The payment is only made to one person per household.

Renters and Commonwealth Seniors Health Cardholders were previously receiving less money than homeowners, or $122 annually, under the scheme.

Their annual payment will be increased to $255.60 from August, bringing it in line with homeowners.

They will also receive the additional $243.90 payment for the 2024-2025 financial year.

Premier Peter Malinauskas said the 2024-2025 budget also included a doubling of the existing school sport voucher and a $200 reducing in the materials and services change for the 2025 school year.

“We are putting money in the pockets of our most vulnerable at the time they most need it,” he said.

“We’re also helping families with the cost of living in a healthy way, by supporting kids to engage in sport and music rather than playing on their phones.”

Bank account details for those eligible for the payments can be updated using the SA Government website.
