MKR judge Colin Fassnidge’s on-screen meltdown: ‘Now I’m on TV crying’

Viewers were stunned to see a very different side to MKR judge Colin Fassnidge on Wednesday’s episode of the Channel 7 show.

During identical twins Radha and Prabha’s instant restaurant, the “bad boy” chef broke down in tears following an emotional confession from the NSW team.

After serving up rogan josh as their main meal, the sweet sisters told the MKR judges and contestants that it was their father’s favourite meal.

They went on to explain that their dad died when they were just two years old, and their mother had passed on the special recipe to them.

“He liked spicy, he liked it with his raita – we know it’s not traditionally served with a fresh salad, but it’s how it is in our family,” Prabha said.

Fighting back tears, Radha added: “And it’s how we eat it on Father’s Day.”

When Colin asked if they thought their father would be proud of their efforts, Prabha added: “I think he’d be proud that we were able to put this dish up for this many people.”

Their words moved Colin to tears, and he immediately started wiping at his eyes and was momentarily lost for words.

“How am I going to do a critique now?” he said.

After attempting to start his review, Colin had to stop and brush away tears again – swearing as he battled to compose himself.

Eventually he said: “What I said to you was, ‘Give me your food, give me the way you do it’.

“The presentation, the way it came out, it was amazing. It’s elegant, but it’s rustic.

“It was a great dish. Like, I want to come back to your house.

“I think your dad’s up there 100 per cent happy tonight. And I’m so glad you cooked it for me tonight.

“And now you’ve upset me, and now I’m on TV crying.”

After Radha and Prabha returned to the kitchen, Colin opened up to the other MKR contestants about what sparked his emotion.

“I’m a dad of two daughters and I cook meals now thinking when I’m not around, what they will say about what I cooked for them,” he said.

“And that’s why it sort of resonated for me. Because we’re not always going to be here.”

Moved by Colin’s sweet display of emotion, Manu wiped away his fellow judge’s tears and gave him a kiss.

Outspoken Claudean then attempted to lighten the mood, saying: “Come on, Colin, you’re supposed to be the bad boy.”

Manu responded that it was a common misconception to think that Colin – who has delivered some of the harshest critique’s in MKR history – didn’t have a soft side.

“That’s the big mistake that people think, that this guy is a big bad wolf?” Manu said. “He’s not. He’s got a heart like this.”

“It’s a load of s***, right Manu?” Claudean asked.

“Oh big time,” Manu replied. “Big time. This guy’s not tough, he’s soft.”

Colin chimed in: “But don’t tell anybody!”

Radha and Prabha were awarded a perfect score from the judges for the main dish – as well as another 10 and a score of nine for their entree.

The pair finished the episode on top of the leaderboard with a total score of 87.

MKR continues next Monday at 7.30pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.
