Melbourne crowned Australia’s top city for food lovers as suburban eateries take centre stage

Australia’s top city for food lovers has been revealed — but for many of us, it won’t come as much of a surprise.

Melbourne, with its melting pot of cultures, came out on top as the number one destination for foodies according to data collated by gourmet food company and olive oil producer Morella Grove.

Taking into account the number of venues with a 4.5-star rating or higher on TripAdvisor, and excluding the CBD which featured 501 top eateries, Melbourne was the clear winner with 508 highly rated restaurants across its suburbs.

Sydney came in second place with 441 top-rated venues, followed by Brisbane (241), Perth (167) and Adelaide (135).

Apart from Melbourne’s CBD, inner suburbs such as Richmond and Fitzroy were highlighted as top foodie spots.

“St Kilda also shines with 60 highly rated restaurants, offering everything from beachside cafés to fine dining,” Morella Grove said.
