Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin announces engagement to partner Kristine Brooks

Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin has celebrated Christmas by proposing to partner Kristine Brooks.

The Demons shared a photo of the happy couple on Sunday night with Brooks showing off the engagement ring.

“The best present I could have wished for. I can’t wait to spend Christmas with you forever,” she wrote on Instagram.

The engagement comes three years after Goodwin split with ex-wife Maggie, who he shares three teenage children with.

The pair were high school sweethearts and married in 2005.

Goodwin and Brooks got together in 2021, but have largely been out of the public eye.

It continues a happy few weeks at the Demons after Joel Smith, who is provisionally suspended after testing positive to cocaine, announced his engagement to partner Elise Carroll.

Captain Max Gawn and wife Jess welcomed their second son into the world last week, while Kysiah Pickett also announced he is expecting his first child with pertner Ardu Cubillo.

But the Demons are also continuing to deal with the off-field issues surrounding Clayton Oliver.

The superstar midfielder is taking an indefinite break after leaving the club’s pre-season training break last week.

“Clayton is taking a break as he continues to deal with some issues,” Melbourne football manager Alan Richardson said in a statement.

“We are continuing to support Clayton and managing his program in a way that prioritises his health and wellbeing.

“His teammates and staff remain confident he is making good progress.”

That was the latest chapter in a troubled off-season for the 26-year-old, who is set to face court in January after allegedly driving with a licence that was suspended on medical grounds.
