McDonald’s reveals big change to breakfast hours after cutting back due to egg shortage

McDonald’s has delivered supersized news for customers, with its breakfast hours close to returning to normal.

Egg shortages brought on by the bird flu forced the fast food giant to end its breakfast offerings at 10.30am, rather than midday, for more than a month.

The measure was implemented in July, but in an update on Wednesday McDonald’s said the morning window had been expanded by an hour.

“We’re excited to share that Macca’s brekkie fans can get their favourite breakfast items, including the bacon and egg McMuffin, sausage McMuffin and hotcakes between 4am and 11.30am at McDonald’s restaurants across the country,” a spokesperson said.

“We want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during the temporary changes to our brekkie menu.

“A huge thank you also to our network of Aussie farmers, producers and suppliers, who ensured we could keep fresh, 100 per cent Aussie eggs on the menu in our restaurants, nationwide.”

The Golden Arches rep said its hash browns are available all day.

A number of farms in Victoria, NSW and the ACT were forced to close in a bid to stop the spread of avian flu.

More than one million chickens and ducks were also culled due to the outbreaks.

Supermarkets introduced limits on buying eggs and the Melbourne Royal Show postponed this year’s poultry competition because of the virus.
