Maple Leafs tinker with lineup ahead of game against undefeated Jets

Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube appears to believe some changes are necessary if his team is going to end a three-game losing streak when it faces the undefeated Jets in Winnipeg on Monday.

Dropped to the third line are Bobby McMann and Max Domi.

Scratched from the projected lineup is Nick Robertson, with Pontus Holmberg drawing back in after sitting out the 4-3 overtime loss to Boston on Saturday.

The changes also see Max Pacioretty join fellow veteran John Tavares on the second line with William Nylander.

Steve Lorentz, David Kämpf and Ryan Reaves make up the fourth group.

Captain Auston Matthews will centre the first line with Matthew Knies and Mitch Marner.

Berube looked to be making a change on defence, too, with Conor Timmins drawing back in at the expense of Philippe Myers, who made his Leafs debut in Boston.

The power play, which has had a dismal success rate of 10 per cent, also saw some major changes. Berube created two units ahead of Monday’s showdown versus the Jets (8-0-0). Morgan Rielly, Matthews, Marner, Pacioretty, and Knies compose the first unit. Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Nylander, Domi, Tavares, and McMann make up the second.

Anthony Stolarz, who played Saturday in Boston, is projected to start in goal.

When asked about Nylander, who is pointless in three games, Berube said: “A little bit of frustration has set in with him.”
