He died at the scene.

The 34-year-old was arrested a short time later and taken to Granville Police Station to be questioned by police. He was then sent to Auburn Hospital for court-ordered forensic tests.

On Thursday night, NSW Police confirmed he had been charged with murder DV.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Friday.

His 60-year-old mother was also home at the time of the alleged attack, however was uninjured.

Police later confirmed they were treating the investigation as a domestic violence incident.

Detective Danny Doherty said the victim was stabbed “several times” in the frenzied attack.

“Unfortunately … there’s a family member that’s now dead,” he told reporters on Thursday.

“It’s another sad domestic-related incident we believe.”

Detectives said the son had a history of mental health issues, and police had been called to the home before.

A crime scene has been established and images from the scene showed multiple emergency service crews parked on the otherwise quiet suburban street.

Horrified neighbours said they were devastated to learn of the incident.

“Normally it’s a quiet neighbourhood, we go for our walk every day and nothing much happens here … bit shocked by it, yeah,” one local told 7NEWS.

“It’s devastating, it’s really upsetting to hear anything like that, but especially something close to home,” another said.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
