Madonna is nothing if not true to herself. The Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra and white lace will always be associated with her. But that doesn’t mean that she can’t borrow looks from fellow pop icons, too. This weekend, while out in Milan, Madonna wore a pair of sunglasses that were an aughties staple for one Britney Spears.
A fan of oversized sunglasses, Madonna wore a pair of giant Embellished Logo Acetate Wrap glasses from Dolce & Gabbana, which feature a conspicuous rhinestone “D” and “G” on either side, and were Spears’s apparent favorite glasses in 2007. Though it’s been around 15 years since these shades were regulars in Spears’s rotation, the brand still makes them today, retailing for $455.
Madge kept her look monochromatic, leaning into the drama of her outfit’s many textures. She opted for an asymmetrical mini with a hip-high slit over a pair of black fishnet tights, which she tucked into a pair of ultra-slouchy leather button-up stiletto boots from Y/Project. She gave the look an operatic touch, draping a black fur shrug over her shoulders and adding a pair of full-length latex gloves decorated with a handful of rings, as well as a Gothic, diamond studded cross earring. Keeping the accessories on-brand, Madonna also carried a black patent leather Black Miss Sicily purse from Dolce & Gabbana.
Whether you’re more fond of Britney Spears’s more casual styling for the oversized sunnies, or you’re partial to Madonna’s grandeur, these two pop stars show us how the glasses can be worn for any occasion.
