Lindsay Lohan’s new Netflix Christmas rom-com is her ‘best yet’ | Films | Entertainment

Lindsay Lohan is back on Netflix with her latest festive offering, two years after she made a splash with the holiday favourite Falling for Christmas.

The former Mean Girls sensation finds herself embroiled in yuletide love turmoil as Avery, who ends up spending Christmas with her ex-beau Logan (played by Ian Harding).

Complications arise when Avery and Logan realise their current partners are related, leading to a comically awkward Christmas where they must conceal their past romance. Questions linger if sparks might fly again between them.

Our Little Secret is streaming from today (November 27), promising to be an ideal pick-me-up as the festive season approaches.

The film’s unique plot and charming ensemble cast, featuring Broadway’s Kristen Chenoweth, Lohan’s Mean Girls co-star Tim Meadows, and Henry Czerny of Mission: Impossible fame, have fans hailing it as one of the new Queen of Christmas’s finest works, reports the Mirror.

A fan expressed their delight on X (formerly Twitter): “Proper rom com Netflix’s Our Little Secret is. I’m sat here happy and crying at the ending.

“Proper if they are the one they’ll always come back no matter where life takes you along the way you’ll always come back together. and I’m so glad FINALLY a proper old rom com!”

Enthusiasm is swirling on the movie-centric social platform Letterboxd, where users are sharing their viewpoints. One impressed movie buff opined: “Definitely the best of the three Netflix/Lindsay Lohan collaborations. Our Little Secret feels like a throwback to old school romcoms in the best sense and makes for a pretty delightful Christmas romcom.

“Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding are both really good and have great chemistry together. They play off each other very well and you’re rooting for them to end up with each other by the end.

“The stacked supporting cast is a lot of fun too with Kristen Chenoweth and Henry Czerny stealing the show.”

Another cinema enthusiast succinctly remarked: “How a Christmas romcom should be.”

And a staunch supporter voiced their endorsement: “Lindsay Lohan deserves all the rom com leads.”

Critical reception, on the other hand, has not been quite as unanimous, leaving some to wonder if Lohan’s freshest romantic comedy venture is simply so bad it’s good.

Variety did not refrain from branding the piece a “cringe-fest”, elaborating: “It’s mainstream fodder as downgraded camp. It’s pablum so numbing it makes you feel good.”

But it wasn’t all tepid reviews; pop culture portal But Why Tho? countered with a more cheering stance, heralding Our Little Secret as “not-so-secretly great”.

Sizing up Netflix’s festive lineup, they assert: “Of the four holiday romance films Netflix has released this month, this one is the most well-rounded. While each one has the respective tropes they follow, Our Little Secret isn’t as obvious about the checkboxes on the list.

“Amid its slippery slope of lies, it takes unexpected twists and turns, granting the formula a fresh feeling. And because of the groundwork done from its opening animated sequence, the final romance at the end feels the most earned and realized, which should satisfy romance viewers.”
