Liam Payne: Hotel staff’s emergency phone call warns police of One Direction star’s behaviour before death

In the aftermath of One Direction star Liam Payne’s death in Buenos Aires, a phone call between a hotel employee and local authorities has emerged which warned police of the singer’s behaviour before he allegedly fell from a third-story balcony.

The 31-year-old was staying at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the Argentinian capital when he died, shortly after 5pm on Wednesday evening local time.

The fall is believed to have been 13m to 14m, with Payne succumbing to “very serious injuries incompatible with life” according to police.

Local media said the Wolverhampton-born singer was “acting erratically in the hotel lobby and smashed his laptop”, before he “had to be carried back to his room”.

A hotel reception staff member named “Esteban” made two calls to local police warning of the dire situation.

“We have someone who is under the influence of drugs and alcohol. When he’s conscious he is ripping up all of the room and we need you to send someone please.,” they said in the first call before the line went dead.

The staff member called back to say, “We need you to send someone urgently because I don’t know if there’s a risk to his life. He’s in a room which has a balcony and we’re a little worried…

“Just send an ambulance, only an ambulance,” they added.

Scores of fans have since gathered on Buenos Aires’ city streets mourning the star, who shot to fame in 2011 as a member of One Direction alongside bandmembers Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik who met through X-Factor.

Payne’s final post to social media depicted him smiling shirtless alongside girlfriend Kate Cassidy in a mirror selfie.

Hotel staff: “No, are you sending the police as well or no?

Police responder: “There’s the common police or the second — you let me know.”

Hotel staff: “No, only the (paramedic?)“

Police responder: “Okay do not worry I’ve already notified them.”

Hotel staff: “Ok, perfect.”

Police responder: “You said the person was under the effects of drugs and alcohol, the paramedic doesn’t enter on their own. The paramedic doesn’t enter on their own, okay.”

Hotel staff: “Okay, thankyou.”

Police responder: “Have a good day sir.”

Hotel staff: “Thanks you too.”
