Lazy blokes given hope as experts say you can reuse boxer shorts

Lazy blokes have been handed a lifeline as experts confirmed you CAN wear your boxers for two days in a row.

Skin specialists reportedly say there is no increase in the risk of infection or health issues if you wear the same underwear for a couple of days. It however seems looser undwear – such as boxer shorts – are the best for re-using.

Dr Anju Methil, a dermatologist with India-based ClinicSpots, told the Daily Mail: “In situations with minimal activity and no sweating, changing every other day may be acceptable. Men’s looser-fitting styles like boxers may also allow for slightly longer wear.”

However, another medic says it “isn’t ideal” to reuse your underwear. Dr Chun Tang, a GP and medical director at Pall Mall Medical, based in the North West, told the Daily Star: “While wearing underwear for multiple days isn’t ideal, breathable cotton boxers can be worn for two days if proper hygiene practices are maintained.”

Dr Tang however says women do not have the same luck. He added: “Wearing the same underwear for consecutive days poses health risks for women due to bacteria and sweat.”

It is not all good news for males though as they can suffer from the fungal infection known as “jock itch” if they do not change. Skincare specialist Sarah Roberts, said: “Men’s boxers, although touching the skin less frequently than women’s underwear, do not escape these hazards – particularly when worn repeatedly.”

Dr Archit Aggarwal, from ClinicSpots, issued a warning to anyone wanting to keep wearing the same undercrackers. They said: “If you experience any discomfort, itching, or unusual discharge, change your underwear immediately and consult a healthcare professional if necessary.”

And giving even more advice, specifically to the female cohort, she added: “The vulva contains folds and crevices that harbour moisture and bacteria more readily than male genitalia.”
