Land Rover Is Once Again Charging $370,000 For A Range Rover No One Will Ever Notice Is Special

If you want to step up from a Range Rover Sport to a full-size Range Rover, it’s going to cost you a cool $107,900. For the cost of one year’s college tuition, you get a comfortable, luxurious SUV that Land Rover says makes 394.5 horsepower. The just-revealed 2024 Range Rover SV Carmel Edition, on the other hand, starts at $370,000. So what the heck did Land Rover do to make this particular special edition more than $250,000 more expensive than a regular Range Rover?

Well, as Range Rover has done for the last several years with the Carmel Edition, it stuffed the SUV with all the luxury features it could possibly think of. You get Bespoke Green Satin paint, 23-inch wheels, Sequoia Green and Perlino Aniline leather, embroidered seats and cushions, dark veneers and black ceramic dials, as well as a 606-horsepower twin-turbo V8. The luxury touches don’t end there, though:

True luxury abounds in the long wheelbase of the Range Rover SV Carmel Edition. Fully reclinable seats provide optimal rear‑seat comfort, complemented by a powered club table, deployable cupholders and a refrigerated compartment complete with SV‑etched glassware to add to the exclusivity of the SV Signature Suite. Custom details on the Carmel Edition include black metal badging accented with 24k gold, embroidered seats and cushions and SV Bespoke branded tread plates with ‘Carmel Edition’ and 1 of 17 designation.

Yes, you read that correctly. Land Rover gave the 2024 Carmel Edition 24k gold badging. And, as before, only 17 will be made. Don’t worry, though. This isn’t conspicuous consumption for the sake of conspicuous consumption. Buying a $370,000 Range Rover is an act of charity since Land Rover says it will donate $5,000 from the sale of every unit to Del Monte Forest Conservancy. See? You’d be doing some good for the world if you bought one. Heck, why not buy two?

Even with the gold badging, it doesn’t really look all that different than any other Range Rover on the road. People are more likely to assume you ordered custom badging than they are to remember Land Rover made 17 cars with 24k gold badging from the factory. Among wealthy Range Rover collectors, it probably means something, and it’s probably a very enjoyable car to ride, but ultimately, you’re spending Rolls-Royce Cullinan money for a fancy Range Rover.
