Kendall Jenner Has Sidelined Sambas for a New Cult Sneaker

Kendall Jenner and ex-boyfriend Benito Ocasio have once again been photographed sneaking out the side entrance of a hotel holding overnight bags with palms obscuring their faces. The former consorts were–depending on how much skepticism you apply to the love lives of the Kardashian-Jenners–rekindling an incomplete romance or reviewing the small print on a freshly-inked contract. (Their most recent dalliance led to a couple’s Gucci campaign, after all.)

But Jenner is perhaps yearning for a more enduring relationship: one involving her once beloved, padded Loewe bombers–that which armchair fashion critics thought hilarious to compare to a not entirely flatting area of the male anatomy in 2022–and the same pair of Onitsuka Tiger sneakers that wardrobed the model’s brief stint as bartender at the Innisfree Irish Pub in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the beginning of 2024.

Much like EmRata’s Puma Speedcats or Lily Collins’s Salomon XT6s–or quite literally any number of shoes outlined here–those Onitsuka Tigers have emerged as a welcome alternative to the inoffensive but all-too ubiquitous Adidas Sambas, which formed no small part of this magazine’s reporting until Rishi Sunak was filmed wearing them. I am not much beholden to the fashions promoted by right-wing politicians, but an endorsement like that is perhaps something even Kris Jenner would struggle to rehabilitate.
