Speaking with her Nova radio co-stars Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald and Michael “Wippa” Wipfli, the trio discussed the actors from the US sitcom Friends and the royalties they would continue to make.
“I think it depends when you initially sign the contract, whether they kind of buy it out completely or not!” Kate explained to her Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie co-hosts.
Ritchie then turned to her own experience with TV royalties.
“I get … what are they called … residuals they call them here for Home and Away!”
“Home and Away goes to over 60 countries all over the world.”
“So will you get a cheque for 80 bucks or something?” Fitzy asked.
“Yeah I think so … something like that!” Kate responded.
Ritchie played Sally Fletcher on the show between 1988 and 2008 and has continued to share moments from the soap on her social media.
In February, she shared a compilation of clips of herself as a young Sally, constantly told no by other characters.
Scenes showed her asking adult characters if she could accompany them somewhere, be involved and help out in any way across various scenes.
And every time she was told: “No!”
The footage was in a reel with Celine Dion’s All By Myself playing in the background.
“Poor Sally. Seriously. Sure does make sense of some things … 📺⛱️🌊☀️👧🏻🩷👩🏻📺🏠🌊 @homeandaway.earlyyears keep them coming.
“You give us old Home and Awayers many many LOLs #sallyfletcher.”
Fans and co-stars of the beloved show were quick to react to the heartbreaking footage from her acting days.
Debra Lawrance, who played Pippa Ross on the show, wrote: “Oh dearest Kate!! The scriptwriters made us do it 😞😂💕💕💕💕💕💕💕.”
Home and Away star Emily Symons simply shared some heart emojis.
Ritchie was eight years old when she first arrived in the bay in 1988 and played the character until 2008, returning briefly in 2013 as part of the show’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
