Kate Beckinsale has revealed the harrowing details of her six-week hospitalisation, attributing her health crisis to the intense stress and grief she experienced following the sudden death of her step-father. The trauma was so severe that it resulted in a life-threatening condition where she says it “burned a hole in my oesophagus which made me vomit copious amounts of blood”.
The acclaimed British actress, famed for her portrayal of vampire warrior Selene in the Underworld saga, had been battling undisclosed health issues for some time.
Back in March, Beckinsale alarmed fans with a series of now-removed Instagram posts showing her in what appeared to be a hospital bed, though she did not reveal why she was there at the time. She later alluded to her health struggles by sharing pictures of herself donning a “tummy troubles survivor” T-shirt in April, suggesting another stint in medical care.
The 50 year old star recently clapped back at an Instagram critic who suggested she “do some squats”, opening up about the personal tragedies she’s been facing: “I watched my stepfather die quite shockingly, my mother has stage 4 cancer, and I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief, quite quickly and then I was in hospital for six weeks because the grief had burned a hole in my oesophagus which made me vomit copious amounts of blood, and I found eating very hard,” Beckinsale disclosed.
She also touched upon the emotional toll of her recent film project, which echoed her own painful experiences, saying, “before my hospital stay I had worked very very hard on a movie that was actually quite triggering because it also involved the theme of the death of my father”, reports Wales Online.
TV director Roy Battersby, who won the Alan Clarke Award for outstanding contribution to television in 1996, passed away at the age of 87 in January. He was renowned for his work on crime series such as Cracker, Between The Lines, Inspector Morse and A Touch Of Frost, as well as the Tim Roth-starring BBC drama King Of The Ghetto.
