Justin Timberlake was arrested in New York’s Hamptons after being accused of driving while under the influence, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
The “Cry Me a River” singer was taken into custody just before 1 a.m. Tuesday in Sag Harbor, on the eastern end of Long Island, after an officer allegedly saw his BMW run a stop sign and he failed to stay in his lane, the Sag Harbor Police Department said in a statement.
“A traffic stop was initiated by a police officer from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department and upon investigation it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition,” the statement said.
Timberlake told the officer who initiated the traffic stop that he’d “had one martini” and was following his friends home, according to court records obtained by CNN. The records list Timberlake as having been arraigned on one count of driving while intoxicated.
An officer described Timberlake as smelling of alcohol and having “bloodshot and glassy” eyes. He allegedly repeatedly declined a chemical test and was given a field sobriety test, which he failed.
“He had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the officer said.
He was taken into custody, held overnight for a morning arraignment and then released at 9:30 a.m. on his own recognizance, police said.
Timberlake is currently on his Forget Tomorrow world tour, which started in April. His latest performance was Saturday in Miami, and he is next scheduled to perform in Chicago on Friday.
His wife, actress Jessica Biel, was also in New York hours before his arrest. She was seen filming scenes from her new series, “The Better Sister,” in New York City’s Central Park, “Entertainment Tonight” and People reported.
A representative for Timberlake’s attorney, Ed Burke, declined to comment when reached by HuffPost.
