Joey King and Nicole Kidman Talk ‘Moulin Rouge!,’ ‘Horton Hears a Who!,’ and Zac Efron in an ‘Off the Cuff’

Nicole Kidman and Joey King banter, bicker, and bow down to each other in the latest episode of Off the Cuff, pretty strongly evoking the mom-and-daughter duo they play in their new Netflix movie, A Family Affair.

Dressed in coordinating black-and-white ensembles (a lacy blouse and trousers for Kidman; a prettily printed dress for King), the co-stars recall the day they first crossed paths (it was during rehearsals) and what they really thought of each other. “When I met Nicole, I had such an amazing idea of who she was going to be… When you love someone so much and you know the concept of them, not them personally, you have no idea what to expect,” King reflects. To her delighted surprise, however, Kidman was “the best person ever. The nicest person, the funniest, most talented…” (Cue: the Australian icon’s complete mortification at all this praise. A humble queen!)

Later on, when asked what she’s listening to at the moment, Kidman crowns Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft her personal album of the summer (though she’s also been playing her husband Keith Urban’s new record, out in September). And as for an item that King never leaves the house without? Why, Lactaid, of course! (Dairy intolerant stars, they’re just like us.) From there, things could really go anywhere—and indeed, Kidman and King’s conversation covers everything from why it’s taken seven years for Kidman to make another rom-com—though she can’t, for the life of her, remember what that last one was (How to Talk to Girls at Parties!)—to King’s lifelong crush on, and newfound friendship with, her other A Family Affair co-star, Zac Efron.

Upon entering Off the Cuff’s lightning round, things get heated (at one point, Kidman blurts out to the camera, “Vogue, you’re not meant to be so stressful!”)—but it’s all in good fun, inspiring the perfect mix of charming chaos and endearing vulnerability. Don’t let us be the ones to tell you, though; you can watch the full thing above.
