Jockey Daniel Moor suspended after being found guilty of ‘careless’ riding at Moonee Valley

Jockey Daniel Moor has been suspended after being found guilty of careless riding in the opening race on Cox Plate Day.

Riding six-year-old Unflinching, it was viewed that Moor “permitted” his mount to shift in “when not sufficiently clear” of Philosopher, taking that gelding in onto Holy Racket (NZ) which was checked when crowded for room.

Moor was suspended for a total of 10 race meetings, commencing on Monday, October 28 and expiring the day after Melbourne Cup day.

He was initially given a 12-meeting ban, but it was reduced after he changed his plea to guilty.

“In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, excellent record and that the incident was in the mid-range,” stewards said.

Unflinching started wide and flew out of the gates before veering to the rail and Philosopher.

Moor settled Unflinching in behind eventual winner Acromantula, and slightly ahead of Philosopher in the early stages of the 1000m Strathmore Community Bendigo Bank Handicap.

In the last 100m, Unflinching drifted way back while Acromantula was simply too fast and strong for the field.

Philosopher went on to finish fifth, behind Frilled, Lempicka (third) and Red Hot Nicc (second).

Unflinching — which finished second last in ninth — is trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman.

Moor was recently booked in to ride Muramasa for the Melbourne Cup, but connections will now have to find a new jockey.

Muramasa sits comfortably inside the field of 24 runners and is expected to carry 51kgs for the $8.4 million race.

Muramasa is trained Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young.

“Pleased to have Daniel Moor on Muramasa in the big one. He will run a hell of a race!” Busuttin Racing said on social media.
