Jets QB Aaron Rodgers comments on Davante Adams rumors

According to at least one report, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams are on the cusp of beginning a reunion tour now that Adams has informed the Raiders he wants out before the Nov. 5 trade deadline arrives.

Rodgers understandably was careful about what he did and didn’t say regarding Adams’ future while speaking with reporters on Friday.

“I don’t know how much I can say about it,” Rodgers remarked, as shared by Andy Vasquez of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. “There’s tampering. But I still have a close friendship with him. We spend time in the offseason together. He’s a great guy and a great player. And the rest of that’s out of my hands.”

Rodgers and Adams were teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2014 through the 2021 season and the future Hall of Fame signal-caller raised eyebrows when he said over the summer he could not “wait to play with [Adams] again.” Adams and his camp subsequently claimed he wanted to stay put, but something clearly changed after Las Vegas fell to 1-2 on the season.

Adams missed the Raiders’ Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns due to a hamstring issue.

The Jets reportedly are the favorites to land Adams even though the 31-year-old has also been linked with the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills. Rodgers can relate to what it feels like to want to move on from an organization, as he engineered a trade from the Packers to the Jets via a deal completed in April 2023.

“The grass is green where you water it,” Rodgers added during his comments. “There’s the fear-mongering that goes along with the adage that the grass is not always greener on the other side. But the grass is green where you water it. You put the time in, you put intention and attention to whatever you’re doing and you can make a special situation out of being anywhere.”

Rodgers won’t have Adams as a target when the 2-2 Jets play the 4-0 Minnesota Vikings in London this Sunday. It remains to be seen if the two will become teammates ahead of New York’s “Monday Night Football” home game against the Buffalo Bills (3-1) on Oct. 14.
