Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) dismissed claims that Democrats were “checked out” and “weak” as she spotted one change since Vice President Kamala Harris launched her presidential bid last month.
“Right now, the only person that looks weak is Trump. He doesn’t have an answer for the vice president and all he wants to do is talk about her behind her back,” said Crockett, who appeared on Thursday’s edition of MSNBC’s “TheReidOut.”
She continued, “But as she stated in Atlanta this week, if he’s got something to say, say it to her face.”
Harris has gone after former President Donald Trump for not committing to an ABC-moderated debate set to take place Sept. 10.
Trump, who has skipped out on debates in the past, originally agreed to the debate with Joe Biden before the president abandoned his reelection campaign last month.
The former president has since declared that ABC “is not worthy of holding a debate” and, in an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham earlier this week, seemingly set the stage for dodging the faceoff.
“I want to do a debate, but I also can say this: Everybody knows who I am,” he said.
MSNBC’s Joy Reid, earlier in the program, noted that Democrats were divided and appeared to be in “disarray” over Biden’s candidacy.
Crockett, when asked if she was surprised at how quickly her party consolidated in “euphoria” around Harris, said she is thankful for Democrats’ response toward the vice president’s 2024 bid.
“I think that they just were looking for that fire to be lit and as someone who is known as being a fighter, I think that they love that she is pushing back and she’s pushing back hard,” Crockett said.
