Jannik Sinner ‘hard launches’ relationship with Anna Kalinskaya at French Open

Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner’s rumoured romance with Russian star Anna Kalinskaya has been confirmed at the French Open.

Tennis fans have been speculating on whether the stars were an item after they were spotted together outside recent tournaments.

The possibility increased when they were on a practice court together at Roland Garros and reached new heights when Sinner stepped out for his first-round match on Monday.

The Italian was supported in his box by none other than Kalinskaya.

If that might have been considered a coincidence, the relationship was put beyond doubt when Sinner was also on hand to watch Kalinskaya’s first-round match later in the day.

They were both victorious, with world No.2 Sinner defeating Christopher Eubanks in straight sets and 23rd seed Kalinskaya clearing Clara Burel in a tight 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 win.

Sinner — three years younger than the 25-year-old Kalinskaya, who once dated Nick Kyrgios — confirmed the relationship in his post-match press conference.

“You know, I don’t like to talk much about my private life. Yes, I’m with Anna, but we keep everything very confidential. I won’t say more,” he said.

Paris had already lived up to its City of Love moniker at the French Open before Sinner and Kalinskaya went public.

World No.9 Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed in the lead-up that he had rekindled his relationship with Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa — and they will now play mixed doubles together at Roland Garros.

Badosa announced their split earlier this month, claiming it was mutual and that they would remain friends — but the break-up didn’t last.

They were spotted together in Monte Carlo and Tsitsipas owned up to his mistake.

“Paula didn’t do anything wrong, nor did I do anything wrong,” Tsitsipas said.

“It was hard for us being apart and I was going through some hard times too. I would say that I didn’t manage it very well either, because I was feeling the pressure of the tour, of my work.

“It seemed like a mountain to combine these two, and I made the decision to take a break.

“After two, three weeks I realised that she is a person who has supported me a lot and when she tried to talk to me about meeting I felt how intense the love we have for each other is.

“I realised that this relationship I have with Paula is completely different from any other relationship I have had in the past.

“I feel that she is my person and we understand each other; that puts more value in everything I do and I want her by my side as often as possible. So yes, we’ve reconnected and we’re in a good moment.”

Badosa was also asked about the relationship in her pre-tournament press conference.

“I think one of the things that I didn’t like or we didn’t like is that it was very public, so now we want to keep things a little bit more on our own,” she said.

“I still understand that it’s not going to be easy because we are two public people, public person, and people will ask, but we want to keep it more for ourselves because it’s never easy to combine our careers to that.

“Let’s just try to keep it simple for both of us, because I think it helps and it’s healthier.”

Australian tennis champion Alex de Minaur and British star Katie Boulter recently celebrated their four-year anniversary.

The pair played mixed doubles together at Wimbledon last year, making the second round.
